Vacation Bible School!

July 25, 2011

With 14 salvation decisions and 5 assurances, it was a wonderful week of VBS!  Our theme this year was “Journey to the Cross”.  Each night the kids were taken on a tour of Jesus’ last few days from His anointing for burial to His Resurrection!  Below are a few pictures representing each story told:

Teen Trip to Texas!

July 25, 2011

What an awesome time the teens had in Texas this year!  Such powerful preaching and challenging sermons brought many of our teens to make life-altering decisions for Christ.  After the conference, we visited Dallas, Tx. and had a lot of fun at Six Flags over Texas!

10-year Anniversary Sunday

July 25, 2011

What a joy to see God’s hand still working in the midst of His own!  God gave us a wonderful day on our 10th anniversary as a church.  Over 400 people joined us to celebrate with special singing, spirit-filled preaching, and dinner on the grounds!  Below you’ll find a link to a very special quartet that just so happened to be with us that day.  Preacher B & the Gospel Heirs made their debut singing “When I wake up to sleep no more”.  Enjoy!

Gainesville City Baptist Rescue Mission

July 25, 2011

On May 29th, we took time to honor a couple who has served as directors of our Homeless Mission for over 15 years.  Bro. Ken and Mrs. Norma Pullen have been true, faithful servants to the call of God.  Their lives are surrendered to helping and serving the homeless men of our community.  The Gainesville City Baptist Rescue Mission offers a refuge from the elements with a comfortable bed, a shower, a hot meal to feed the body and nightly preaching to feed the soul.  Hundreds have come to Christ through this ministry led by this one-of-a-kind couple.

Because a Rescue Mission is a seven day a week ministry, the Pullens rarely get to take a break.  To honor them, the Oakwood Baptist Church gave them a 4 day, three night get-a-way to the vacation spot of their choosing.  Of course, this pales in comparison to the rewards they will receive in heaven for their service to God, but we are so glad to be able to honor them in some way.

We are thankful to God for sending the Pullens to OBC!

Ministry Leaders’ Appreciation Day (May 8, 2011)

July 25, 2011

Old-fashion Preaching, old-fashion Singing and personal Soul-Winning: three main ingredients to a successful church.  But as the church grows, there are “offspring” born into the ministry.  Offspring such as the “Bus Ministry”, “Children’s Ministry”, “Sunday School”, “Homeless Mission”, “Addiction Recovery”, “Nursery”, etc.  With these offspring comes the need for a leader.

Without the ministry leaders of our church, we could not enjoy to the fullest the blessings God has for us through those ministries.  God uses people – for that’s all He has to use.  But without a surrendered person to lead a ministry – it will fail.

On May the 8th, the Pastor along with our church honored the leaders of our ministries publicly with a personal letter and gift for their service.
